Community Coordinator

Community Coordinators maintain a safe and inclusive hall environment, through their support of students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth. Community Coordinators do this by staffing offices to ensure student safety and security, providing counseling on things such as homesickness to loss, and facilitating a variety of activities to foster a sense of community.

My name is Axel Battista (he/him/his) and I am the Community Coordinator for 2nd Beall.

I earned my BA in Secondary Education and English from UNC Greensboro in 2021, and my MA in English at UNC Greensboro in 2024.

Some fun facts about me:

I have 9 years experience in public education.
I am a published author 3 times over! I love to edit student papers, poetry, books, and other academic writing.
Some of my favorite musical artists are the Gorillaz, Joji, BTS, Noah Kahan, and Fall Out Boy. I am very good at music trivia.
In my free time, I am usually playing video games. Some of my favorites are Stardew Valley, Kingdom Hearts, Minecraft, Fortnite, Terraria, Dave the Diver, and Dishonored!

I also have a cat, Dorian Grei, who is lovingly nicknamed 'Mamas.'

Reagan Brock

Hi! My name is Reagan Brock, and I will be an RLA on 2nd Beall this upcoming year! I am very excited to meet and get to know everyone new on hall in addition to continuing my relationships with my fellow returning hall mates! I am originally from Goldsboro, NC and have basically lived there my whole life. I use She/Her pronouns.

In my free time I like to read and do any sort of physical activity. I play varsity volleyball and basketball at NCSSM, and plan to continue this year! While living in Durham, I love going out with my friends, whether it's on 9th street, or downtown Durham to explore new restaurants (I'm a big foodie), and am always down to go anywhere to grab any type of food!

Emilie Friesen

Hey everyone! My name is Emilie Friesen, my pronouns are she/her, and I am from New Bern.

I have two dogs, Zeppelin and Finnegan, and an unhealthy addiction to science fiction. When liberated from my classes, you can find me tucked in a nook on Hill street drawing or out in the neighbourhood running with my friends. I am interested in all things science, and look forward to studying Biochemistry after high school.

I am super excited to be one of your 2nd Beall RLA’s this year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with all of your questions or just to chat! My door will always be open, so come visit! I am so excited to get to know all of the Juniors and continue to bother all of the Seniors!

Ashley Zhang

Hi everyone, my name is Ashley and I am from Charlotte, NC.

In my free time, if I'm not painting in the art studio, you can find me out on 9th Street or exploring downtown with friends, trying out new hobbies (lately been getting into Lime scootering), and vibing to music (some of my favorite artists are Chevelle, Sleeping with Sirens, Staind, and Linkin Park, to list a few!).

I enjoy biology as my primary science and am looking to pursue medicine.
