LAUNDRY ROOM ADDED TO HOUSEKEEPING ROTATION
We are ON for Laundry Housekeeping this week!
I will include the weeks that we are "on" for Housekeeping on the new sheet, as well.
PROM ORAH PASSES AND REMINDERS
REMEMBER: If you are planning to stay off campus overnight the evening of Prom, we ask that you submit and have their Orah sign-out request endorsed by April 6th. This is to ensure we have time to confirm student plans and approve their passes.
If you miss this deadline, the only way you will be allowed to stay off campus on April 11th is if you are checked out by a guardian. Myself and any other CC will, unfortunately, cancel and deny Overnight Orah passes for prom that are submitted after April 6th at 11:59pm, and this is a hard deadline.
Your Orah pass must include all essential details about your plan, such as the host's name and contact information, the exact address you'll be staying at, how you will be getting there, and if there are other people staying with you. Please be detailed!
Students MUST include the exact address where they are staying, and the full name of the person signing them out (Ex: "Air BnB with Family Friend" will not suffice. "1234 Durham Street with Rob Roberts" is appropriate).
For more information, please visit prom.ncssm.edu.
Please be safe the night of prom. If you are driving, do not drive while texting or on the phone, and do not allow yourself to be distracted by anyone else that is in the vehicle with you.
Consent is key! Only do what you want to do and what other's want to do with an enthusiastic "Yes!" whether that be dancing, moving throughout the space, driving, going out to dinner, etc.
Remember that check is at 1:30am on Prom Night!
PROM TICKET SALES
Prom tickets are available for purchase via this link, also found on the prom website. Tickets can be purchased for $50 online through April 10th and can be purchased by cash or check from the cashier's office on 2nd Watts.
The price increases to $60 if you elect to purchase your ticket at the door on the day of prom, and you may have to wait in line.
If you'd like to bring a guest as a date to prom, they can purchase a ticket from the link above as well. No need to fill out a form!
P.A.W.S. BLANKET DRIVE
Donate old blankets to PAWS! This is to support SAFE Haven for Cats, a rescue in Raleigh. They need clean blankets, particularly fleece ones — please make sure your donated blankets are clean with no major holes or stains. Blankets can be dropped off at Bryan lobby and the PFM (look for PAWS donation bins) between April 10th and April 13th, or purchased directly HERE. Wishlist items will be shipped directly to SAFE Haven. Help us help the animals in our community!
PLEASE RETURN OUR BOX OF PAINT MARKERS!
Over Spring Break I noticed our box of paint markers is no longer on our shelves by the TV. If you borrowed them and maybe have the box in your room, please return it to the shelves ASAP!
PROGRAMMING THIS WEEK:
Thursday 9/10 5 - 6:30pm: Trader Joe's Flower Run for Prom! There are 11 seats, please meet in Blobby! We might even be able to make a stop for food, if we have time!
Thursday 4/9 after check: Quesadillas with 1st Hill in Hill Lounge! Please come down to Blobby and either Kelse or I will come get you!
Saturday 4/11 3-4pm: Small to-go, easily put-in-a-purse-or-bag snacks to take with you to prom! You never know if you might need a pack of fruit snacks or a granola bar, what with all the dancin' you'll be doin'!

HALL MERCH ORDER FORM IS LIVE!
Design 1 and Carolina Blue won majority votes, so we have launched our CustomInk order form! This form will be live till THIS UPCOMING FRIDAY AT 11:59PM.
Additionally, Design 2 will get made into stickers, which I will work on creating over Spring Break!
I was able to get the price down to $25.70 per sweatshirt, and we have an order minimum of 15 sweatshirts to complete the order! Unfortunately, if we do not reach the 15 sweatshirt minimum, we will have to cancel the order.
Design 2 will be created into stickers, which I will work on creating over Spring Break.
We want everyone who wants one to be able to have one, so if you need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know!
LAUNDRY ROOM ADDED TO HOUSEKEEPING ROTATION
Thank you for everyone's feedback regarding this addition and change! I think it makes the most sense to add Laundry Room to the Housekeeping Closet section of our Housekeeping.
So, on the weeks where 2BL and 2BR are "on" for laundry room, on the Sunday and Thursday that you're on Housekeeping closet, you'll head downstairs and tidy up the room. We suspect it should not take any longer than Housekeeping usually takes.
Over the break, I'll print and laminate the instructions the BB CC's have written, and on that I will include the week by week rotation for the Laundry Room! We will only have to do it a few times for the rest of this year.
PROM OVERNIGHT PERMISSIONS
We'll talk more about prom next Monday, April 3rd, when we will have Hall Meeting!
If you are planning to stay off campus overnight the evening of Prom, we ask that you submit and have their Orah sign-out request endorsed by April 6th. This is to ensure we have time to confirm student plans and approve their passes.

PACKING FOR SPRING BREAK
Now is a great time to start thinking about what you can bring home over Spring Break. I STRONGLY encourage everyone to bring things home this weekend if you are able!
Every item you clear out now—like bulky winter gear, extra furniture, or large decor—makes your final move-out that much smoother! While you're home, don't forget to grab some empty boxes or suitcases to help with the final pack-up later.
UNPLUG FOR SPRING BREAK
Since this is a long break students must unplug all items in their room, including fridges and fish tanks.
Students should properly defrost their fridge to avoid puddles or mold growth over the break.
SPRING BREAK REMINDERS
Residence halls will be closing for Spring Break at 5:00pm on Friday, 3/27 and reopen at noon on Monday, 4/6. Students whose rides will arrive later than 5:00pm on Friday are asked to wait with their belongings in Bryan Lobby.

You should indicate where you are going for the break, who you are traveling with, and how you are getting to your destination. If you have specific questions about checkout procedures for Spring Break, you should speak to me or a CC on duty.
Any students going somewhere other than home and leaving with an individual other than a legal guardian will need to check out with a CC at Bryan desk before leaving campus, in addition to filling out their Orah pass.
Any students returning to either campus after 10:00pm curfew on Monday, 4/6 will also need to check out at Bryan desk.
Hunt Kitchen will close at 12pm this Friday. Please remove all personal items from the kitchen, including fridge/freezer items.

SPRING CLEANING
Take a second with your roommate this week to assess the state of your respective room!
Things to look for:
Tops of wardrobes and behind your dressers may be quite dusty!
Backs of dressers, behind closets, under and behind desks, may be dusty, dirty, or have accumulated crumbs!
Dry food storage! Things may be expired or about to expire, and those should be eaten soon!
It may be a good idea to move things around, change things up in your room, make things new and exciting! You never know what you might find!
It is also an incredibly great time to start thinking about packing some things away to take home with you over Spring Break! Things like winter coats, thick sweaters and long pants, anything you don't think you'll wear in the next two months, are great things to take home with you! If you start packing them now, you'll have less to do in a few weeks!
LAUNDRY ROOM ADDED TO HOUSEKEEPING ROTATION
Because of clothes left behind and general misuse of the laundry room, Bryan and Beall is adding Laundry Room to our Housekeeping rotation starting this upcoming Sunday! As a reminder, it is everyone's responsibility to keep shared spaces clean on campus!
Moving forward, we will have students from each floor on Thursdays and Sundays help keep the laundry room clean, so we will be teaming up with students from 2nd Bryan!
I'm not sure where we will slot it in for the rest of the school year, but I'll be sure to let everyone know before we start! Additionally, the BB CC's will work together to create the blurb of instructions, so I'll keep y'all posted on that as well.
Juniors can expect laundry room to either be it's own task next school year, or for it to be slotted in similarly to how it will be for the rest of the year.
MARCH MADNESS MILES CHALLENGE

HALL MERCH DESIGN PERIOD BEGINS TODAY!
It is time!! If you'd like to design a hall sweatshirt for us, now is your time! If you are comfortable with the hall voting on a design, please see the following information and email your designs to me by THIS FRIDAY, March 13th!
The parameters we have is:
Include "2nd Beall" AND Beallementals/Avatar the Last Airbender in the front design.
Please be aware that certain ATLA elements are copyrighted. You may want to lean into the 4 core elements for your design, instead of the faces of the characters/aniamals, to avoid it being rejected by CustomInk.
Have all student names and CC name on the back design.
You can decide if it is first and last, or only first names.
Maximum 3 colors for the design.
Unfortunately, 4 or more colors will significantly raise the price of our merch and raise the minimum amount of units we will need to place the order.
"To summarize – fewer colors means lower cost per shirt, which leads to a lower print minimum and more money raised per shirt, which means it’s easier for you to be more successful and raise more money." - The 4 Elements of a Great Design via CustomInk.
You can use Custom Ink's design tools to create your design, or you can digitally or by hand create a design!
You have until FRIDAY, MARCH 13TH to create your designs and send them to me!
The rough timeline we have is:
Design period: March 2nd - March 13th
Voting period: March 16th - 18th
Order Form period: March 19th - March 25th
Tips and tricks from Custom Ink's website:
Raster artwork is any digital art composed of horizontal and vertical rows of pixels. As a result, when raster images are enlarged, the image quality diminishes significantly. Typical raster file types include .psd, .tif, .jpg, .gif, and .bmp.
Vector artwork is digital art composed of mathematical lines and curves. As a result, vector images can be reduced or enlarged in size indefinitely, without any loss in image quality. Typical vector file types include .ai, .eps, .ps, .indd, .pdf, and .cdr.
Creative tips and tricks can be found HERE (such as layering, text ideas, and more)
"DPI stands for "dots per inch" and is the standard measure of printer resolution for digital imagery. Specifically, DPI refers to the number of dots of ink or toner that will appear within one square inch of the image when it is printed. At Custom Ink, we recommend an image of 300DPI or more at actual print size to help ensure you get the very best print."
AMTRAK PICK UP AND TRANSPORTATION REMINDER
We've recently had a number of students show up at the Amtrak station without informing us ahead of time, which delays transportation back to campus.
Please include your Amtrak return time in your Orah pass details and confirm with the CC on duty that you are scheduled to be picked up from the station.

THE WINNING MALE & FEMALE HALLS GET A TROPHY AND SNACKS FOR A HALL MEETING!!
HAPPY DAYLIGHT SAVINGS! CURFEW REMINDERS
With the time change, we're excited to have more daylight, but please remember walking/biking curfews:
Students should not be walking, biking, etc off campus before sunrise or after sunset.
After sunset, please do not be on dark lawns (reynolds lawn, beall lawn/hammock). You may be on the lit section of Bryan Lawn - if the lights are not on, ask a CC for assistance.
The perimeter sidewalk of campus is closed from sunset to sunrise - you should not walk/run on the perimeter of campus when it's dark.
You may leave your building after 6am, but stay on campus until sunrise.
DELIVERIES, DOORDASH, AND MORE
If you order food, like Doordash or groceries, PLEASE be sure to pick them up! I know sometimes it can be hard to instruct drivers on where to take food, but please do your best to send them to Bryan Desk.
Similarly to the last point, if you'd like to order something like Doordash or UberEats, please please please order BEFORE 9:15pm and 10:15pm respectively. This is a hot spot in Durham, especially with Duke nearby, and we've noticed at the desk that most driver's are doing multiple orders at once, which makes deliveries take longer than you would think. Please be proactive when ordering food, and do not wait till 9pm Sun-Thurs/10pm Fri/Sat!
SG VOLLEYBALL LOCK IN
It's time for next SG Lock-in and this time, we're playing VOLLEYBALL! Even if you don't plan to participate in the tournament, come out to cheer on your friends, watch a movie, and play board games in the PEC classroom! We will be offering an array of delicious snacks for everyone to enjoy.
If you are attending the lock-in, please make sure you sign in at the PEC lobby at 11pm. Remember that you cannot leave the PEC without an adult after check.
If you are not attending the lock-in, please sign in at the CC office of your building.
Folks attending the lock-in will be expected to remain in the gym from 11:00 pm until the end of the lock-in at 1:00 am. Please keep this in mind as you make plans for the evening.
Also, this week is spirit week leading up to the lock-in on Friday, March 13th. This spirit week includes 5 days of themes:
Monday 3/9: Lazy Monday—Wear your favorite pajamas!
Tuesday 3/10: Twin Tuesday—Dress the same in pairs or groups!
Wednesday 3/11: Jersey Day—Put on your favorite jersey repping a sports team!
Thursday 3/12: Teacher/Student Swap—Dress like your favorite teacher!
Friday 3/13: Color Wars—Juniors wear blue, Seniors wear white!
Ensure you are being appropriate and thoughtful in your outfit choices throughout Spirit Week!
APPLY TO BE A KOFFEEHAUS HOST
Juniors! Do you love Koffeehaus? Have you ever wished you could be part of the planning team? Do you want to introduce acts and keep the show running?
If this sounds like you, then please apply to be a Koffeehaus Host! Hosts are in charge of selecting acts, compiling the set list, and making the show happen. Plus, they get to come up with themes and fun between-act bits to bring it all together!
Application closes Friday, March 20th at 11pm. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kori at korianna.hays@ncssm.edu or any of our current Koffeehaus hosts - Sadie Albright, Cullen Warren, and Chloe Harnphanich.
(Koffeehaus Host is not an SLCS position, so you can still have your other positions and this one, too!)
BEALL BATHROOM USAGE
Please understand that we are 2nd Beall residents, and we should be using the 2nd Beall Bathroom.
There are lots of gender neutral and single stall bathroom options in Bryan/Beall, such as right outside our elevator landings on all three Bealls, down the hall in Bryan Lobby, and down in the PFM.
PROGRAMMING THIS WEEK:
Tuesday 3/10 Trivia Night with 3rd East in the Lecture Hall! I will come on hall and gather folks who would like to go! Some play some variously themed trivia games!
Saturday 3/7 4 - 5:30pm Target Run! Assuming I can find pies, there will be some in the lounge to celebrate Pie Day? How many digits can YOU recite? I can recite 5!

RLA ANNOUNCEMENTS
None!
PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN CHECK CORRECTLY!
I've noticed some folks are not signing check correctly. Please remember that check is at 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Remember, there are lots of ways you can sign check efficiently and quickly!
Set multiple alarms on your phone, like at 9:59pm, 10:01pm, 10:04pm, 11:01pm, etc. Whatever times will help you!
Have a check buddy! This could be someone on hall or your roommate - pledge to sign check together, and to wake each other up if needed, text each other to see where they are, whatever works best for you!
Try not to shower close to check time! Showering before 9:30pm and after 10pm Sunday through Thursday is the best way to ensure you are not in the shower during check!
Remember that early check is ALWAYS an option for you! However, please remember that Early Check means you are ready to go to bed when you sign with a CC at Bryan Desk. If you are Early Checking, you should not be awake in your room or elsewhere on campus.
Lastly, an RLA should NOT have to come and find you every night to ensure that you sign!
Signing check is a part of life here at NCSSM, and an essential one at that. It is how we ensure the safety of all students on campus, and we need you to do your part in order to make that happen!
If you ever have any questions or feedback about check, please do not hesitate to share it with an RLA or myself.

DO YOUR PART TO HELP KEEP CAMPUS CLEAN!
Be sure to clean up after yourself, whether it is in the cafeteria, SAB area/Student Center, or on hall. If you see a mess, please clean it up and invite others nearby to join you in doing so.
Maintenance has had to paint over graffiti twice in the past week. Please do not paint or mark on walls. Semi-related note, chalk should not be used on vertical surfaces either or on horizontal surfaces under coverings, the only approved area to chalk with sponsor approval is on Hill Street; we're counting on weather to wash away any chalk messages.

More information will come out in the next few weeks regarding this, but, some information as a precursor:
We will have a design contest and we will have a hall vote for a design for our merch. Please understand that if you submit a design, it will be voted on anonymously through a Google Form only I see. There will most likely be a two week window for submissions of merch designs, and they will have very specific instructions via CustomInk!
If there are two designs that are very close in votes, we can do stickers for the second place winner.
We will print out all submitted designs anonymously, and hang them on hall, and save them in our scrapbook.

MLK DAY SIGN UP
All students who will be on campus for MLK Day are required to sign up for one activity. If a student is in Morganton or their J-Term trip has left or is leaving on MLK Day, they do not need to sign up for a session. Students not signed up by Wednesday at noon will be assigned to an available activity.
SIGN UP HERE.
DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS
In order not to delay your drivers and to get your food quickly, take a moment to make sure your app delivery instructions are helpful and accurate. For Bryan lobby, use the address 1912 W. Club Blvd to avoid your food ending up on Watts porch. Add instructions such as "Bryan Living and Learning Center", "drop off table next to reception", "enter gravel lot from Broad St, past the circle lot" (Hunt), etc. Unless you plan to meet the driver in the lobby, please remove the PIN requirement.
HARMFUL INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT
There is an instagram account that is soliciting negative and harmful posts from and about NCSSM students. Please consider the impact of your actions on your peers and community. You may enjoy the salacious nature of the posts but those posts do have a serious impact on others. Harassing and bullying behavior online is a serious issue and can result in disciplinary follow up. If you are following the account and telling yourself that you are not involved because you have not posted, please rethink that statement, because if you are following the account, it looks like you are cosigning the content. If students do not follow the account, the lack of attention will cause the poster to stop soliciting information. Please do your part to create a positive environment at NCSSM. If you need support, please reach out to your CC and counselor, if you have information about the account, please reach out to your CC and JAshe.
WATTS PORCH
Just a reminder to take care of community spaces. Clean up the space after each use, throw away trash, and return furniture to where it belongs. Watts porch in particular has been an issue, specifically with regards to the tables blocking the doorway. Blocking the doors prevents safe evacuation during an emergency.
LAUNDRY REMINDERS
Do NOT overload the washer or dryer. When loading the washer, leave 5” of space from the top. One washer load equals one dryer load. Overloading a machine can overheat the motor which leads to a discontinued cycle.
If you're using a laundry pod, then please place these directly into the drum of the washing machine. Do not place laundry pods in the machine's detergent drawer. The degradable wrap does not fully dissolve and can clog the detergent drawer.
If you're using bleach, then use the appropriate detergent drawer. Bleach should NOT go into the drum of the washing machine.
Leave the washer door open to allow the drum to dry after each use. This prevents buildup of mildew.
Clean the lint screen to keep the dryers running efficiently and to save energy. This also helps your clothes dry in one cycle.
Reach out to Vanessa Ponce if you have any questions or concerns!
SENIOR LEADERSHIP OPEN DISCUSSION
We'd like all our seniors present tonight to share what their position is!
We will then open the floor for seniors to discuss their positions right now, or if juniors have any questions for seniors about senior leadership, now is the time to ask!
Applications are due on Wednesday, February 4 at 10pm through Survey Monkey.
If you are applying for RLA, please let me know, even if you are not applying for RLA for 2BL!
