SPRING BREAK/EXTENDED REMINDERS
Residence halls will be closing for Extended at 5:00pm on Friday, 4/11 and reopen at noon on Monday, 4/21. Students whose rides will arrive later than 5:00pm on Friday are asked to wait with their belongings in Bryan Lobby.
By noon this Wednesday 4/9, all students will submit an Overnight Orah pass for their extended weekend travel plans. If you know your Spring Break plans right now, you should submit a pass right now!
You should indicate where you are going for the break, who you are traveling with, and how you are getting to your destination. If you have specific questions about checkout procedures for extended weekends, you should speak to me or a CC on duty.
Any students going somewhere other than home and leaving with an individual other than a legal guardian will need to check out with a CC at Bryan desk before leaving campus, in addition to filling out their Orah pass.
Any students returning to either campus after 10:00pm curfew on Monday, 4/21 will also need to check out at Bryan desk.
PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE NOTE ATTACHED TO THE APPROVAL OF YOUR ORAH PASS!
It's actually me writing those notes!! If you get the all clear message, you're good to skedaddle, but please make sure you read any reminders or requests for information that is requested.

For students that have registered to ride one of the four charter buses home for extended, select ""Bus"" on mode of transportation for your overnight Orah pass and then put which bus you're taking in the ""Destination/route"" field. This only applies to this specific extended. If you are registered to ride the bus, but are not taking it this weekend, please let Mr. Cromwell and your bus coordinator know. Begin defrosting your fridge the night before you leave.
Unplug the refrigerator.
Make sure you don't leave any items in the fridge (double check the small freezer section).
Leave the door to the fridge open.
Place a towel in the fridge to absorb any melting ice or other moisture while it is defrosting.
Make sure you don't leave the towel in the fridge over the break!
JUNIORS ONLY: ROOM AND ROOMMATE SEARCH LOWDOWN AND FAQS
Everything discussed tonight can be found HERE!
As you begin your search for a roommate, consider asking them THESE QUESTIONS to determine whether or not you would be a good match. I strongly suggest taking this seriously since you will be living with this person for the entire academic year. If you are having trouble finding a roommate, then I encourage you to attend one of our Roommate Social events in the ETC Courtyard on April 30 at 4:15pm and May 6 at 3:15pm.
If you are bringing someone on hall next year as a roommate, please tell them to make contact with me, even if it is a short email conversation.
Similarly, if you are planning to move off hall, either as a single or with a roommate, please make sure to make contact with that hall's CC!
PLEASE BE AWARE: All room applications are due by 5pm on each of the deadline dates.
No late applications will be accepted (unless a special circumstance exists).
If a deadline is missed, then your room request will not be guaranteed.
Students wishing to reside in their same room for the 2025-2026 academic year MUST still submit an application.
Regardless of what hall or what room you are living in next year, I will need to know where you're living!
If it comes to be that there are pairs vying for the same room, we will have to Ro-Sham-Bo it out with a coin toss to see who will get the room. This can only be done with ME! If you rock-paper-scissors, coin toss, or have any sort of deciding conversation with anyone other than me, that conclusion will be invalid and will need to be redone. Working out a floor plan yourselves is also not acceptable!!

PROM OFF CAMPUS TRAVEL
The deadline to submit your Orah pass to stay off campus the evening of Prom is April 1st at midnight. This is to ensure CCs have plenty of time to approve passes and double-check any missing or incorrect information.
When making your Orah pass, please ensure you've filled out all of the categories completely. You must include the exact address where you will be staying overnight and the full name of your host (ex: ""Air BnB with family friend"" does not suffice. ""1234 Durham Street with Rob Roberts"" does.)
We hope everyone will be safe and make good decisions on the evening of prom, but in the event of an emergency, we need to know exactly where you will be so we can assist you. If you experience an emergency on or off campus the night of Prom, on-call CCs are available to help. You can find the list of on-call CCs at twan.ncssm.edu.
Orah passes to stay somewhere OTHER THAN CAMPUS overnight for Prom, if submitted after midnight tomorrow night, will be denied!

SENIOR PLEDGE CAMPAIGN
This week is Senior Pledge Week! Seniors: If you’d like to learn more and make the pledge in person, come find the Foundation Attachés tabling at lunchtime in the PFM where they’ll have free desserts! Signing the Senior Pledge helps ensure future generations of SMATHERS enjoy the same experience we did. If the Class of 2025 reaches our goal of 180 pledges, NCSSM will host a Locopops ice cream party for us during which we will turn Chancellor Roberts into a human sundae. Our class will also be the first to unlock a $5000 class donation to NCSSM toward an area of our choosing, from J-term to academic competitions to sports.
WATTS LOBBY AND PORCH
Etiquette for events at Watts Lobby/Porch.
Recently, we have noticed an uptick in students holding celebrations on Watts porch/Watts lobby. While we don't mind the spaces being utilized, it has become more common to see these areas left in unsatisfactory condition after being used.
Some guidelines students should follow include: Tables should NOT be moved in front of any door-it's a fire hazard. The large tables in Watts lobby especially are not to be moved (this is from Dr. Roberts directly). If tables/chairs are rearranged on the porch, then they need to be returned to their original position.
Leftover food/drinks should never be left behind. Please take/discard all items and clean up any mess made.
Streamers/other decorations also need to be fully removed. Just ripping them off a wall but leaving tape/portion of the decoration still hanging is not acceptable.

NOISE ON TENNIS COURTS
Please be mindful of your noise out on the tennis courts, especially at night. You should not use speakers to play music on the tennis courts since that can create a disturbance for the nearby neighborhood. We want to be good neighbors so if we continue to have issues with noise on the tennis courts, we may have to cut back student access to the courts. All materials will be handed out tonight during Room Inspections, so if you leave the hall after Hall Meeting, you'll find your materials on your desk - but to make my life easier, please don't leave!
Some notes...
We love to see you dress as your character! Since this is wild wild west themed, let's avoid things like guns, however - if you have cowboy boots or hats, bring those!
DO NOT SHARE YOUR CHARACTER INFORMATION WITH ANYONE! This could ruin the entire mystery for everyone. Though the information handed out tonight does NOT tell you who the murderer is (even they won't know until the murder happens!), please do NOT share any of the information in your personality sheet.
If you said you didn't want to play but have now changed your mind, or change your mind next Monday, let me know! There are extra characters!

The deadline to submit your SchooLinks entry for approval is April 1st. Please use your faculty/staff facilitator as the supervisor on the entry.

HALL STEP CHALLENGE
From your Counseling, Mental Health, and Physical Wellness Departments, alongside the Student Wellness and Resilience Ambassadors, we are thrilled to launch the March Madness Miles Challenge! (March 25th-31st) This is a step competition between residence halls using the Charity Miles app! Each hall will track their miles, and the more you move, the more money you'll earn for a charity of your choice!
How to join? --> It's simple! Each hall will have designated a captain at their next hall meeting, and that captain is responsible for creating a group within the Charity Miles App. Then, that captain will send the link for the teammates to join. You and your hall are responsible for picking a charity to give your miles to! The hall with the most miles wins, and leaderboard updates will keep the competition exciting! Let’s get moving for a great cause.
SO... would anyone like to be our Hall Captain?

2ND SESSION J-TERM
Just another reminder! I will be traveling to Japan with a session of students for the last 2 weeks of J-Term. I expect to be gone from January 21st - 29th, and CC Leslie Knight of 1st Beall will be covering the hall. CAMPUS WIDE JENGA TOURNAMENT

Halls across campus are invited to put together a team and compete bracket style until we declare a Jenga champion! Teams may be a maximum of three people, and must have at least one junior and one senior on the team; each hall may also only have one team, so chose your players wisely! If you plan to register a team, please read the complete tournament rules, and then complete the sign-up form here by 12:00 noon on Friday, 1/17.
ALL HALL
Tomorrow night we will NOT have Housekeeping and instead have an All Hall. This is a kind of housekeeping in which every student, whether you have Housekeeping this week or not, will be assigned a task and will need to complete it before you are released.
All Halls are intended to build community and camaraderie between students, and ensure that students are aware of how to correctly complete their individual housekeeping task!
During the All Hall, an RLA or myself will be stationed in one of the three areas of the hall: Bathroom, Lounge, and Hallway. When you've completed your task, one of us will check it off and ensure it has been done correctly. When you've been checked off, you're done! But, you must stay on hall until all students are done with their tasks. We will send a message in the hall groupchat when the All Hall has concluded!
All Halls are also great opportunities to ask any questions you may have about Housekeeping or a specific Housekeeping task!
After you sign check, please remain on hall so you can be assigned a task. This may take 10-20 minutes, as I am taking check in Bryan Lobby tomorrow. Hang out, talk to some folks you haven't seen in a while, and when you're assigned a task, you can go ahead and get started!
I ask that all students stay on hall, either in their rooms or in the lounge, until the All Hall and all tasks are complete.
